No. 5 Houston ends three-game skid, overwhelms Colorado 102-62 behind balanced scoring at Fertitta Center

Houston responds after rare slide with season-high output

The University of Houston men’s basketball team delivered a decisive rebound performance Saturday, Feb. 28, defeating Colorado 102-62 at the Fertitta Center. The result halted Houston’s three-game losing streak—its longest since January 2017—and moved the Cougars to 24-5 overall and 12-4 in Big 12 play.

Houston entered the night coming off consecutive losses to ranked opponents Iowa State, Arizona and Kansas, a stretch that dropped the Cougars from the top of the conference standings into a multi-team tie for second. Against Colorado, Houston paired its best offensive night of the season with sustained defensive pressure after an early deficit.

Game flow: early hole, then a first-half surge

Colorado opened with a 10-2 lead in the first three minutes. Houston answered with a lengthy run that reshaped the game before halftime, closing the first half on a 32-10 burst. The Cougars’ lead expanded steadily after the break, reaching as many as 40 points in the second half.

Houston shot 60% from the field for the game and 66.7% after intermission. The Cougars also went 10-for-17 from three-point range, turning efficient perimeter shooting into separation that Colorado could not counter.

Milos Uzan’s scoring leads, but depth defines the night

Senior point guard Milos Uzan matched a career-high with 26 points, including 5-of-7 from beyond the arc. Uzan has been playing through two sprained ankles and recorded his first 20-point game since late November.

Houston’s production was spread widely behind Uzan. Six other Cougars scored in double figures—Chris Cenac Jr. (12), Kingston Flemings (11), Emanuel Sharp (10), Joseph Tugler (10), Chase McCarty (10) and Mercy Miller (10). It marked the program’s first game with seven players in double figures since 2005.

Flemings added eight assists and six rebounds. The bench contributed 29 points, reinforcing Houston’s ability to sustain pace and pressure across rotations.

  • Final score: Houston 102, Colorado 62
  • Houston shooting: 60% overall; 66.7% in the second half
  • Houston three-point shooting: 10-of-17
  • Seven Houston players reached double figures (first time since 2005)

Colorado’s road struggles continue as emotions rise

Colorado fell to 16-13 overall and 6-10 in Big 12 play. The Buffaloes remained winless in conference road games this season and moved to 0-6 against ranked opponents. Isaiah Johnson scored 19 points and Bangot Dak added 15 to lead Colorado.

Tensions surfaced late in the first half when Colorado head coach Tad Boyle was assessed two technical fouls and ejected with 3:06 remaining before halftime.

The matchup underscored Houston’s capacity to reset quickly after setbacks while maintaining its conference positioning as the regular season enters its final stretch.
