Sun-Soaked Sunday: Houston Greets March with 80-Degree Warmth

A Bright and Balmy Start to the Month

Houstonians are waking up to a beautiful start to March as spring-like weather continues its firm hold on Southeast Texas. Following one of the warmest Februaries on record, today, Sunday, March 1, 2026, promises a continuation of that trend with plenty of sunshine and temperatures reaching well above seasonal norms. Whether you are heading to the start of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo festivities or planning a backyard barbecue, the conditions look nearly perfect, provided you are prepared for a bit of morning fog and afternoon humidity.

Morning: Fog Gives Way to Bright Skies

The day began with areas of patchy to dense fog across parts of the Greater Houston area, a common sight given the high humidity levels near 95% earlier this morning. Visibility was significantly reduced in low-lying areas during the pre-dawn hours. However, as the sun climbed, this fog began to burn off rapidly. By 10:00 AM, temperatures had already moved from a comfortable low of 62°F into the upper 60s. For those out early for Sunday morning errands, a light jacket may have been useful, but it won't be needed for long as the mercury rises quickly under clear skies.

Afternoon: Peak Heat and Breezy Conditions

As we move into the heart of the day, expect a high of approximately 82°F, which is nearly 10 degrees above the historical average for early March. Skies will remain mostly sunny to partly cloudy throughout the afternoon. One factor to keep in mind for outdoor activities is the wind; southerly breezes will pick up between noon and 4:00 PM, with gusts reaching up to 20 or 25 mph. This onshore flow from the Gulf of Mexico will keep the air feeling slightly humid, but far from the oppressive levels seen in mid-summer. The UV index is expected to be very high, so if you’re spending time outdoors at local parks or the Rodeo grounds, sunscreen and hydration are highly recommended.

Evening: A Mild and Quiet Night

As the sun sets around 6:20 PM, temperatures will begin a slow descent. The evening forecast remains dry with mostly clear skies initially, eventually becoming partly cloudy as the night progresses. Overnight lows will settle in a comfortable range between 60°F and 63°F. Late tonight and into the early hours of Monday morning, the return of patchy fog is possible as wind speeds drop and the moisture-rich air settles back over the region. No rain is expected today, though more active weather patterns are forecasted to return later in the week.
