Shootout in Southwest Houston leaves suspect dead and officer injured after brief pursuit and gunfire

What happened
A Houston police officer was injured and a suspect was killed during a shootout in southwest Houston after an attempted traffic stop escalated into a short pursuit and an exchange of gunfire. The incident occurred in the 10100 block of Forum Park Drive, near Sugar Branch Drive, in an area close to the Sam Houston Tollway and the Southwest Freeway corridor.
Authorities said an officer attempted to stop a vehicle, but the driver did not comply and instead led officers on a brief chase. After officers caught up, the driver exited the vehicle holding a revolver and began firing toward an officer. The officer was struck twice in the right arm, police said.
Injuries and immediate aftermath
Despite being wounded, the officer returned fire. Two additional officers also fired, and the suspect was killed at the scene, authorities said. The injured officer was treated at a hospital and released the same day.
Police said the shooting was captured on body-worn camera video.
What is known about the investigation
As is standard after an officer-involved shooting, the officers involved were placed on administrative leave while the incident is reviewed. This process typically includes an internal administrative review alongside a criminal investigation to determine the sequence of events, assess compliance with policy, and document use-of-force decisions.
Key factual questions investigators generally seek to answer in incidents of this type include the timeline of the attempted stop and pursuit, the distance and positioning of the individuals during the gunfire, how many shots were fired, and how body-camera footage aligns with physical evidence and witness accounts.
