Second suspect charged with capital murder in December shooting death of Houston taco truck operator

Case expands after court filings add a second defendant
A second suspect has been charged with capital murder in connection with the Dec. 4, 2025 shooting death of a Houston taco truck operator in the Greenspoint area, extending a case that initially centered on one defendant.
Court records show Oscar Armando Roland Menjevar, 20, is now accused alongside Angel Adonis Saldivar-James. Both men face capital murder charges tied to the killing of 36-year-old Yaddua Barraza-Hernandez, who was shot while working at a taco truck on West Dyna Drive near Interstate 45.
What investigators say happened on West Dyna Drive
Police described the incident as involving two suspects: one who fired into the taco truck and another who took money from the business. Barraza-Hernandez was found inside the truck after relatives became concerned when he did not answer calls. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities have previously stated they were reviewing surveillance footage from the area as part of the investigation.
Charging timeline: from initial arrests to upgraded allegations
Saldivar-James and Menjevar had already been jailed since December on separate felony allegations connected to the same episode—murder for Saldivar-James and aggravated robbery for Menjevar—before prosecutors filed the new capital murder charges. Court documents indicate the capital murder filings were made on Friday, Jan. 16, 2026.
With Menjevar’s charging, the case formally aligns with the investigative account of two participants, rather than a single accused shooter acting alone.
What “capital murder” means for the case
In Texas, capital murder is the most serious homicide charge and can be filed when a killing is alleged to have occurred under specified circumstances, including during certain felonies. Prosecutors have not publicly detailed all facts they intend to rely on at trial, and the charging documents do not by themselves establish guilt.
Both defendants remain in custody as the case proceeds through early court settings, where issues such as evidence disclosure, representation, and possible bond conditions are addressed. The next phases typically include hearings on probable cause, pretrial motions, and—if the case is not resolved through plea negotiations—a trial.
Victim: Yaddua Barraza-Hernandez, 36
Location: West Dyna Drive in the Greenspoint area of Houston
Date of killing: Dec. 4, 2025
Charges now filed: Capital murder against two defendants
The case remains pending, and both men are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
