Transportation and Roadway Construction Advisories
The City of Houston and the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) have announced several major roadway closures and maintenance projects active for Saturday, February 7, 2026. Residents are advised to plan for significant delays or seek alternate routes for the following corridors:
- I-45 Gulf Freeway: Northbound main lanes from Broadway Street to Woodridge Drive will remain closed continuously through Monday, February 9, at 5:00 a.m. for ongoing construction.
- IH-610 South Loop/I-45 Interchange: Total closures are in effect for the westbound connector ramp to IH-45 northbound. Additionally, the northbound connector ramp from IH-45 to the IH-610 South Loop is closed for the duration of the weekend.
- US-290 Northwest Freeway: The westbound exit ramp to Dacoma Road will undergo a total closure on Saturday, February 7, from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Traffic is being diverted to the 34th Street exit and instructed to use the U-turn to access Dacoma.
- Ongoing Traffic Alert: Repair work continues on the East Freeway (I-10 East) near Federal Road following a sinkhole caused by a water leak. While some lanes have been restored, officials warn of intermittent lane reductions and recommend checking real-time traffic maps before traveling through the area.
Community Health and Public Safety Updates
Harris County Public Health (HCPH) and the Houston Health Department have issued the following advisories for the month of February:
- American Heart Month: Residents are encouraged to participate in free cardiovascular screenings at local community centers. Officials remind the public that heart disease remains a leading health concern in the region.
- National Children’s Dental Health Month: The city is promoting early oral care to prevent childhood tooth decay. Low-cost dental clinics for qualifying families are available throughout the month.
- World Cup 2026 Preparedness: With Houston serving as a host city for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, health officials are urging residents and potential travelers to review their vaccination status, particularly for measles, following recent international outbreaks.
Public Service and Employment Announcements
City and state agencies have scheduled the following events and maintenance for Saturday, February 7:
- METRO Community Hiring Event: The Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County is hosting an Open House at the Kashmere Bus Operating Facility (5700 Eastex Freeway) today from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Positions for bus operators and mechanics are available.
- Agency System Maintenance: The Railroad Commission of Texas (RRC) has announced that its website will undergo scheduled maintenance from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. CST today. Digital services may be intermittent during this window.
- Park Operations Transition: Under a new city-county collaboration, maintenance and operations for Moody Park and Keith-Wiess Park are transitioning to Harris County Precinct 2 to ensure long-term sustainability and improved stewardship.
