Official Notice: Houston City Council Session and Regional Infrastructure Alerts

Public Service Announcement: City Council Action Meeting
The Houston City Council is scheduled to convene for its regular weekly session on Wednesday, March 11, 2026. This meeting primarily focuses on action items and the finalization of ordinances. The session is slated to begin at 9:00 AM at City Hall, located at 901 Bagby Street. Members of the public are encouraged to review the agenda items, which include municipal budget allocations and city-wide infrastructure project approvals. For those unable to attend in person, the proceedings are broadcast live via municipal television channels and the city’s official streaming portal.
Infrastructure and Road Closure Advisory
Houston TranStar and the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) have issued several critical traffic alerts for Wednesday, March 11, 2026. Commuters should prepare for significant delays on major corridors due to ongoing maintenance and emergency repairs:
- IH-10 Katy Freeway: Two outside westbound lanes from IH-45 Gulf/Hogan Street to Studemont Street remain closed until further notice. This lane reduction is necessary for the I-10 White Oak Bayou elevation project and the Studemont Street Bridge demolition.
- Katy Area Emergency Closure: Southbound Mason Road and westbound Westheimer Parkway remain closed following the discovery of a large underground void at the intersection. Engineering teams are currently on-site performing stabilization work. Drivers are advised to use Fry Road or Peek Road as alternate routes.
- US-290 Maintenance: The westbound exit ramp to Shepherd Drive is scheduled for a total closure today from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Traffic will be diverted to the exit for US-290 West and instructed to use a U-turn.
- IH-69 Southwest: One outside southbound lane from Sweetwater Boulevard to Riverbrook Drive will be closed from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM for scheduled maintenance.
Public Health and Community Safety
The Houston Health Department (HHD) continues to emphasize public health vigilance during the month of March. Health officials are currently promoting National Nutrition Month, encouraging residents to access city resources for healthier food choices and chronic disease prevention. Additionally, the department maintains an active advisory regarding measles awareness. Following reported cases in the region, the HHD urges parents to ensure children are up to date on MMR vaccinations. Symptoms to watch for include high fever, cough, and a distinctive rash starting on the face.
Municipal Court System Update
The City of Houston Municipal Courts Department reminds residents that a new jury management system officially launched on Monday, March 9, 2026. This modernized system aims to streamline the jury selection process and enhance communication with prospective jurors. Individuals who have received a summons should use the new online portal for check-in procedures and to review their service status. The Westside court location is now fully operational following recent infrastructure repairs.
