Significant Weekend Roadworks on I-10 and I-610

Houston commuters and weekend travelers should prepare for several major disruptions this Saturday, February 14, 2026. TxDOT has scheduled continuous lane and ramp closures that will significantly alter travel times, particularly for those moving between the East Loop and the South Loop. A total closure of the eastbound connector ramp from IH-10 to IH-610 Southbound is in effect through Monday morning. Drivers are advised to continue eastbound on IH-10, exit at Mercury Drive, and perform a U-turn to access the southbound lanes of the 610 East Loop.

In the Inner Loop, the I-10 White Oak Bayou elevation project continues to cause bottlenecks. Westbound lanes from IH-45 to Studemont Street will see two outside lanes closed throughout the day for bridge demolition and drainage work. This area is already narrowed to two main lanes as part of the long-term modernization project, and the additional lane loss today is expected to cause substantial delays for those heading toward the Heights or Washington Avenue.

Regional Impacts: Sugar Land and North Houston

Southwest Houston residents will face heavy congestion on IH-69/US-59. In Sugar Land, three outside southbound lanes are closed continuously from University Boulevard to Riverbrook Drive. This closure is expected to back up traffic significantly for those traveling toward Richmond and Rosenberg. Meanwhile, in North Houston, SH-249 (Tomball Parkway) is reduced by one inside lane in both directions between FM-1960 and Perry Road, a restriction that will remain in place through Monday evening.

METRO Transit and Public Transport Alerts

METRO has confirmed that METRORail will operate on its regular Saturday schedule. However, several bus routes are operating under significant detours due to ongoing NHHIP construction and local infrastructure repairs. Notable impacts include:

  • Route 41 (Kirby/Polk): Detoured at Kirby and Holcombe due to active construction.
  • Route 66 (Quitman): Westbound detours remain in place near the intersection of Quitman and Fulton Street.
  • Downtown Routes: Routes 221 and 229 continue to use the Downtown HOV lanes to bypass construction delays on I-10, skipping regular stops at Louisiana and Preston.

Valentine's Day Evening Traffic Warning

As today is Valentine's Day, traffic volumes are expected to surge starting at 4:00 PM, particularly in entertainment and dining districts. Increased congestion is highly likely in Downtown, Midtown, and the Uptown/Galleria area. With the 610/I-69 interchange and the I-10/I-45 connectors already restricted, drivers heading to dinner reservations should allow at least an additional 30 to 45 minutes of travel time. Ride-share users should also anticipate higher demand and potential pickup delays near popular restaurant corridors like Montrose and the Heights.
