Relocation shifts executive base from Oklahoma City while keeping major operations there

Expand Energy Corporation announced plans to relocate its corporate headquarters from Oklahoma City to the Houston area in mid-2026, positioning the company’s executive leadership closer to major commercial counterparties and the region’s energy-trading and services ecosystem. The move will center primarily on the executive leadership team rather than a wholesale operational transfer.

In regulatory filings, the company specified the new headquarters location as its existing office in Spring, Texas, in the greater Houston area. Expand Energy said Oklahoma City will remain a key “center of excellence” for business and operations and that it will continue supporting employees and community commitments there.

Leadership change: Michael Wichterich named interim CEO as Dell’Osso steps down

Alongside the relocation plan, Expand Energy reported a leadership transition effective immediately. Board Chairman Michael Wichterich was appointed interim president and chief executive officer, replacing Domenic (Nick) J. Dell’Osso Jr. Dell’Osso resigned from the board and is expected to remain involved as an external advisor for a transition period. The board has begun a search for a permanent CEO using an independent recruitment firm.

In its filings, Expand Energy identified Wichterich, 58, as the founder, CEO and chairman of Three Rivers Operating Company LLC, a private exploration and production firm focused on the Permian Basin. The company also noted that Wichterich previously served as interim CEO during part of 2021.

  • Effective date of interim CEO appointment: February 6, 2026

  • Date relocation plan was publicly announced: February 9, 2026

  • Planned timing of headquarters move: mid-2026

Business context: reaffirmed outlook and upcoming results

Expand Energy said it reaffirmed its synergy, capital and operating outlook for the fourth quarter and full year 2025, consistent with what it previously communicated in its third-quarter 2025 earnings materials. The company scheduled its fourth-quarter and full-year 2025 financial and operational results release for after market close on February 17, 2026, followed by a conference call on February 18, 2026.

Expand Energy described itself as North America’s largest natural gas producer and said the Houston-area headquarters is intended to support long-term growth objectives by strengthening relationships with industry and commercial partners.

What the relocation signals for Houston’s energy headquarters landscape

The announcement adds to a broader pattern of energy companies concentrating headquarters functions in Houston while maintaining significant operational footprints elsewhere. For Expand Energy, the company framed the move as a commercialization and connectivity strategy—linking its scale in U.S. natural gas production with growing domestic and global markets—while keeping Oklahoma City as a continuing base for operations and specialized functions.
