A Stunning Start to the Weekend

Good morning, Houston. I’m the lead editor for houston.news, and I have some excellent news for your Friday. Today, February 6, 2026, the Bayou City is trading the humidity for a dose of crisp, clear air and temperatures that feel more like early May than early February. Whether you are heading into the office or planning an early start to your weekend, the weather is firmly on your side today with zero percent chance of rain and plenty of sunshine.

Morning: A Crisp, Chilly Commute

Early risers should be prepared for a bit of a chill. As of the early morning hours, temperatures across the metro area are sitting in the upper 40s to low 50s. Official lows dipped to approximately 44°F at George Bush Intercontinental Airport and slightly higher near Hobby. You will certainly want a light jacket or a sweater for the morning commute. However, with clear skies and a dry atmosphere, the sun will begin warming the region rapidly as soon as it clears the horizon.

Afternoon: Rapid Warm-up and Gusty Breezes

The headline for this afternoon is the significant temperature climb. Driven by dry winds from the west and southwest, Houston is expected to see a high between 75°F and 80°F. This is well above the seasonal average, offering a perfect opportunity for outdoor lunch breaks or an afternoon stroll. You should, however, be mindful of the wind; sustained speeds will hover around 10 mph, but occasional gusts could reach as high as 30 mph. This dry, southwesterly flow is what is fueling our warm-up, so expect a very low humidity level that makes the 70s feel exceptionally comfortable.

Evening and Overnight: Mild and Manageable

As the sun sets, the cooling process will be gradual. Evening temperatures will stay near 70°F through the early dinner hours, making it an ideal night for patio dining. By late tonight, the air will settle into the low 60s, eventually reaching an overnight low of about 63°F. Unlike the start of the day, Saturday morning will likely begin much milder.

Planning Your Day: Alerts and Advisories

There are currently no severe weather warnings, rain alerts, or wind advisories in effect for the Houston area. Air quality is rated as moderate, which is typical for the region and should not impact most residents' outdoor activities. Because of the high visibility and dry roads, travel conditions are excellent across all major freeways. If you are spending extended time outdoors this afternoon, remember that the UV index is moderate to high under these clear skies, so a little sunscreen wouldn't hurt!
