Closure ends a seven-year run at one of Houston’s highest-traffic retail dining hubs

Blanco Cocina + Cantina has permanently closed its restaurant at The Galleria in Houston, ending the brand’s only Texas outpost. The restaurant occupied space at 5115 Westheimer Road, in an area of the mall’s dining mix near other destination concepts.

The Houston location opened in 2018 under the name Blanco Tacos + Tequila and later operated as Blanco Cocina + Cantina. During its time at The Galleria, it positioned itself as a modern Mexican concept offering tacos, burritos, bowls and enchiladas alongside a bar program built around tequila, frozen margaritas and other agave-based drinks.

Brand ownership and what is known about the decision

Blanco is part of Fox Restaurant Concepts, the Phoenix-based hospitality group founded by restaurateur Sam Fox. Fox Restaurant Concepts became part of The Cheesecake Factory Incorporated in 2019, when Cheesecake Factory completed the acquisition of Fox Restaurant Concepts and North Italia, keeping the Fox portfolio operating as a separate subsidiary.

No detailed explanation for the Galleria closure has been publicly confirmed. Company comments reported elsewhere characterized the Houston shutdown as a standalone decision rather than a broader retrenchment of the Blanco brand, but there has been no confirmed announcement of a replacement Texas location.

How the closure fits into a changing Galleria-area restaurant landscape

The Blanco closure arrives amid continued turnover among large, multi-unit restaurants around the Galleria area. In recent weeks, Grand Lux Cafe, another Cheesecake Factory-operated concept, ended operations in the area with a publicly stated final service date of January 24, 2026. Separately, Landry’s Inc. closed The Oceanaire Seafood Room at The Galleria effective December 27, 2025, following the end of its lease, while indicating an intention to relocate the concept to a different site.

These moves underscore how major mall and adjacent retail corridors regularly rebalance their dining lineups in response to lease cycles, brand strategies and shifting traffic patterns. The Galleria remains a magnet for retail and tourism activity, but its restaurant roster continues to evolve as operators assess sales performance, labor and occupancy costs, and the role of full-service dining in a mall environment.

What to watch next

  • Whether the space is backfilled by another full-service restaurant or repurposed for a faster, higher-throughput concept.
  • Any further clarification from Fox Restaurant Concepts on Blanco’s longer-term plans in Texas.
  • Additional leasing announcements tied to Galleria-area dining vacancies created by recent closures.

For Houston diners, the immediate impact is straightforward: Blanco’s Galleria location is no longer operating, and there is currently no confirmed successor site for the brand in Texas.
