18-year-old left in critical condition after shots fired into north Houston home early Sunday

What happened
An 18-year-old man was critically injured early Sunday, February 15, 2026, after a shooter fired into a home in north Houston, authorities said. Police were called to the 600 block of Granville Drive at about 3:30 a.m. and found the victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper torso.
Emergency medical care was provided at the scene before the teenager was transported to a hospital. As of Sunday morning, he was listed in critical condition.
What investigators say they know so far
Investigators described the suspected shooter as the ex-boyfriend of a person who lives at the residence. Police said the suspect arrived at the home and began firing multiple rounds into the house while several people were inside.
Authorities said the occupants reacted by dropping to the floor when the gunfire started, but the 18-year-old was struck. Police said they did not yet know what relationship, if any, exists between the victim and the suspect, or whether the victim was the intended target.
No arrest was announced on Sunday morning, and police said the suspect remained at large.
Why “shots into homes” cases can be difficult to solve quickly
In shootings where rounds are fired from outside into an occupied structure, investigators often work to establish a timeline, identify the shooter’s position, and determine whether the incident was targeted or random. That process can involve interviews with residents and witnesses, checks for nearby surveillance video, forensic work on shell casings and bullet trajectories, and follow-up on potential interpersonal conflicts tied to the address.
Police have not identified a motive and have not publicly described the suspect beyond the reported connection to a resident.

What’s next
Police said the investigation was ongoing Sunday. Further updates are expected as detectives work to confirm the events leading up to the shooting, identify and locate the suspect, and determine whether the 18-year-old was specifically targeted or was struck while inside the home during the gunfire.
