Shooting reported near Renwick and Glenmont

A 17-year-old was hospitalized after being shot in the back while walking Tuesday night in a southwest Houston neighborhood, as investigators worked to determine where the gunfire came from and what led up to it.

Police were called at about 8:48 p.m. Tuesday to the 5800 block of Glenmont Drive following reports of a shooting. The incident was described as occurring near the intersection of Renwick Drive and Glenmont Drive, an area of residential streets in southwest Houston.

What investigators say happened

The teenager told officers he had been walking near the intersection when he heard multiple gunshots. He reported being struck once in the back and then running down Glenmont Drive seeking help.

A resident in the area assisted the teenager by calling police, and the teen was taken to a hospital. He was reported to be in stable condition.

Witness account and remaining unknowns

A witness in the area reported hearing about 10 gunshots near the intersection, but investigators were unable to determine where the shots were coming from based on the information available early Wednesday.

Police had not released suspect information by Wednesday morning, and investigators were still working to determine what led to the shooting.

How cases like this typically develop

In shootings where the source of gunfire is unclear, investigators commonly work to establish a timeline using witness interviews, physical evidence collected at or near the scene, and any available surveillance footage from nearby homes or businesses. Police have not said whether such video exists in this case or whether shell casings were recovered.

The investigation remained ongoing Wednesday, with authorities seeking to clarify the circumstances that placed a teenager in the path of gunfire on a neighborhood street.
